Celebrating Dia de Los Muertos with MIT, GradDiversity

Closing out our celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 – October 15), the Office for Graduate Education (OGE), GradDiversity and MIT graduate students celebrated Dia de Los Muertos at Muse Paintbar on Thursday, October 28. Día de Los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a holiday that celebrates the lives of deceased loved ones. Originating in Mexico, this two-day celebration is now observed across the Latin Americas.

Led by a Muse Paint Bar artist, the group created their own Sugar Skull, representing a departed soul. Sugar skulls are usually placed on the home ofrenda (altar) or gravestone to honor the return of a particular spirit.
Take a look at the masterpieces created below and a short video recap of the event!
